Kenneth J. Brewer, Sr. Enterprising Scholar Award
In recognition of his work in becoming a leader in the field of business in Washington, DC, the Brewer Foundation has created the Kenneth J. Brewer, Sr. Enterprising Scholar Endowment Fund. Kenneth J. Brewer, Sr. is a native Washingtonian who graduated from Woodrow Wilson Senior High school and Howard University. Coming from a politically astute family, Mr. Brewer understood the connection between business and politics. At Wilson Mr. Brewer excelled at basketball and initially started his interest for business when he was asked to join the Banking Club. At Howard he cultivated that interest into an actual love for business and graduated with a degree in Finance, which opened the door for a lifelong career in business. That lifelong career includes the following; - Congressional Intern US House of Representatives Full Committee on the District of Columbia
- Campaign Manager for DC City Council member and future Chair John A. Wilson
- Budget Analyst for the Deputy Mayor of Finance
- Business Loan Specialist, Senior Asset Manager, and Development Project Director at H Street Community Development Corporation
- Former Chairman of the DC Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board wherein the agency annually transferred approximately $90 Million to the DC General Fund/Treasury
- Deal Structuring Manager and Project Manager with Fannie Mae and completed the purchase of $36 Billion in mortgage assets
- Community Development Manager for E*TRADE Bank and E*TRADE Savings Bank
- Real Estate developer through his firm the Washington Financier Management Company
Additional Information:- Mr. Brewer was a Captain in the US Army and is a decorated military combat veteran of the 1991 Persian Gulf War/ Operation Dessert Storm where he commanded a 32 member Platoon and Military Police Detachment in Saudi Arabia.
- Mr. Brewer is Chairman Emeritus of the Historical Society of Washington DC which specializes in the preservation of historical records of the people and events in the nation’s capital.
- Mr. Brewer is a member of the Washington DC Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc and currently serves on the Board of Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund (KSEF) which has amassed approximately $2 Million for college-bound DC Public School students.
- Mr. Brewer joined Prince Hall Lodge #14 and was raised on 19 April 2006. Mr. Brewer has been serving since 2007 on the Prince Hall Freemason and Eastern Star Charitable Foundation (PHFESCF) serving on the Ways and Means Committee. Mr. Brewer holds the distinguished 33 Degree within the United Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Prince Hall Affiliate.
Mr. Brewer returned to H Street Community Development Corporation as the Executive Director, and is now responsible for H Street Finance Corporation and H Street Investment Corporation.
